ARES of Jefferson County, NY

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. ARES can provide quick and effective communications when other means are unavailable. ARES is sponsored by the American Radio Relay Leauge (ARRL) .

Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization is eligible to apply for membership in ARES.  Training may be required or desired to participate fully in ARES. Because ARES is an Amateur Radio program, only licensed radio amateurs are eligible for membership. The possession of emergency-powered equipment is desirable, but is not a requirement for membership.  ARES of Jefferson County, NY is closely affiliated with RACES of Jefferson County, NY and most of our members participate in both organizations.

ARES also offers auxiliary communications for events like marathons, triathlons and other outdoor events.  This allows us to practice skills we would need in an emergency situation and provide a service at the same time.  There is no charge for our services but donations are greatly appreciated.
